the problem seems to be categorization through isolation. Black and Latino communities as well as Native American and Asian communities have had commonalities within their cultures and similar struggles. The focus on differences is what categorizes us apart thus making the struggle for self determination a single battle amongst each group. Divide and conquer after all is the American way and that is a concept brought here by European colonialists. Arizona Representative Richard MIranda has a positive idea for Spanish speaking people in Arizona but he's not necessarily thinking outside of Arizona. Latinos in Arizona do not have the same privellages as Anglo-Cubans in Miami do. So we have to consider the big picture. Not all Blacks or Latinos have the same beliefs or politics. Things are not as transparent as they were before the 1970s. Today we have Latinos in Miami who want to graduate to the concept of whiteness, not as a color or Race but as a symbol of privilege. Some Black folks are also running after that piece of the pie and leaving everyone else behind but those individuals do not represent the rest of our groups!
