Hats are off to Rev. Canon Richard Livingston Marquess-Barry who was born on Nov. 14, 1940 and reared in Miami. He became a deacon in the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Port Saint Lucie before being assigned to The Historical St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church. He would soon marry his college sweetheart — Virla Rolle — of West Palm Beach.

Father Barry has always served above and beyond his calling. His active presence has resonated in a variety of arenas: government, politics, education and even affordable housing with the development and success of his brainchild — the Rainbow Village Housing Project. He has truly made his mark on the lives of South Florida’s Black community and those who support us.
John Williams, graduate of Bethune-Cookman University and former president of the local alumni chapter, took some time to take his wife and others to visit the Holy Land from Oct. 19th to Nov. 2nd. Among the travelers were: Annette Williams, Glenwood and Michele Lopez, Oman and Rosa Pratt, Gary and Kathleen Moss, Lora Manning, Erma Wellons, Maria Arenas, Pat Grimsley, Beverley Nixon, Nadine Gay, Thomasina Campbell and Bertha Tyson. The sightseeing tour included Rome, the Vatican, Turkey, Cyprus, Alexandria, Cairo, the Pyramids, Israel, the Sea of Galilee, Nazareth and Canaan.
B-CU celebrated as the leader of their football team, Coach Brian Jenkins, was named “Coach Of 2012” and their team closed the season with a 10-2 record. The President’s reception was sponsored by: Israel Melton, John Williams, Robert and Pamela Edwards and Glendal Johnson.
Lillie Mae Gordan Miller was born Oct. 3, 1940 in Blakely, GA where she graduated from Washington High. In 1961, she moved to Miami where she met and married the late Quintus Miller and settled as a contracted domestic until retirement in 2005. She joined Glendale Baptist Church and became the Sunday school teacher under the Rev. Jimmie L. Harrell until illness forced her to resign her post. Her legacy will be long honored and remembered by her family, including 22 grandchildren.
