Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, honored the Miami Central Senior High School football team state champions on Jan. 23 and called the team’s success “inspirational.” During a special presentation, Commissioner Monestime led the Board of County Commissioners in proclaiming Jan. 23rd as “Miami Central Senior High School Football Team Day.”
The team won the Class 6A Football State Championship last December by defeating Gainesville High School. This is the second football state championship the team has won in three years.
“Miami Central is the home of the ‘Mighty Rockets,’ where teachers and students work together to reach new heights. The Miami Central football team is an inspiration to the community,” said Commissioner Jean Monestime. “I want to encourage these student-athletes to continue to achieve both on the field and in the classroom.”
The proclamation to the team was presented to Central’s principal, Gregory Bethune during the regular Board of County Commissioners’ meeting. The team received a standing ovation after the proclamation was presented.
The team is led by the inspiring Coach Telly Lockette and a phenomenal coaching staff who foster a sense of family among the team and provide educational support to its football players.
A parade to celebrate the football team’s championship victory will be held this Saturday, Feb. 9th.
