Contemporary gospel singer Earnest Pugh, best known for songs like “Rain On Us” and “I Need Your Glory,” is back for the holiday season with a CD of Christmas classics that is certain to become a family favorite. The concept of “Christmas with Earnest Pugh & Friends” is simple yet effective: Pugh stumbles upon a choir of children preparing to go out caroling and he lends them a hand at their rehearsal. Add in a few of his talented friends and the result is pure magic.
Some of the tunes you don’t want to miss include: “Silent Night” with Quadrius Salters, Keith Williams on “Holy 2 U,” and Chrystal Rucker who adds a special touch to her moving rendition of “Do You Hear What I Hear?”
“With very little money and being the seventh of nine kids, my parents always emphasized togetherness — music was all we had when I was growing up,” Pugh said. “Our household was filled with love, music and good food during the holidays.”
He adds that this project is particularly important to him and close to his heart because it was one of the final requests made by his mother just before her death on New Year’s Eve 2006.
“This has been a year of great manifestation and I have sowed seeds and now it’s like harvest time,” he said. “I started EPM Music Group, I’m looking to finally put my book out, I’m looking to broaden my brand and I want to see how I can spread this gospel further with the platform with which God has blessed me.”
Christmas just isn’t the same without the music of Nat King Cole, Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Mahalia Jackson and Johnny Mathis . . . and now Earnest Pugh.
