Health care reform tour to raise awareness
At 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15th, U.S. Congresswoman Frederica Wilson will be meeting with community health and legal experts to provide information about the Affordable Care Act for Miami-Dade residents at Florida Memorial University. Wilson’s interactive forum will feature: the National Council of Negro Women, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, AARP, the surgeon general of the United States, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Labor.
“I am pleased that we will have the chance to talk with the experts about the Affordable Care Act and the need for quality, affordable health coverage,” said Alma Brown, President of the local section of the National Council of Negro Women, a key sponsor of the event.
“In Miami Dade County, access to health care is a huge issue, especially for persons of color, women, seniors and low income residents. The new health law is already helping seniors in our community afford prescription drugs, provide access to preventive services for our families and invest in community health clinics.”
