Dear Editor,
Commissioner Audrey Edmonson was identified in The Miami Times saying illegal immigration should be handled at the federal level and not at the state level. The federal government is doing a half-hearted job at enforcing the laws on the books. That’s why the states are having to take the lead. The states are tired of the drain on their budgets for illegals and increased criminal activity. Florida and all other states should pursue it because it is enforcing the law.
Is she saying she is pro-illegal immigration? I thought she had to uphold the laws of the U.S. Constitution and not her own political career. Is she saying to look the other way to criminals that come here illegally? I think that is not the message she should be giving. Why even have laws if no one wants them enforced?
Miami is #1 in the nation for Medicare fraud. This is because of not checking the background of people but bringing them here by boat with no real processing. If all the illegals including “wet foot-dry foot” and TPS persons are not allowed to stay and are deported did you know unemployment for the Black community would probably be three to five percent? Can you imagine? But these are the same people that say they represent Blacks, but look like they represent illegals.
Democrats and the Obama Administration don’t care about American jobs or they would do something about this. Illegals pay no real taxes yet want schools, police, fire and hospital benefits. All these things cost money and guess who will be paying for them – American citizens. My birth state of Alabama has taken a strong stance against illegals they say because illegals take away American jobs and drain the budget. California has gone backwards and want to offer college tuition to illegals in a state that is bankrupt.
Write or e-mail Obama and Gov. Scott and say no dream act and no wet foot-dry foot or any illegals of any kind. Let your voices be heard like the illegals do. If this country cannot deal with this illegal problem, we will go down the drain.

It is so unfortunate that Ms. Simmions feel that way about immigration. I am interested to know how she managed to relate Medicare fraud to immigration, or immigration to crime and unemployment.
The powers that be would love everyone to think like her. They would rather that we fight amongst ourselves or with other minority groups, and remain distracted and uninformed about the real issues.
The real focus should be on the Prison Industrial Complex, and the politicians who push these policies that allow our kids to be criminalized as early as 8 years old, allow our kids to be housed with adult offenders, outsource prison labor to steal jobs from the tax paying resident, and create an environment that makes it hard for a person who has served their time to find housing, get jobs, and vote.
I hope that we don’t allow ourselves to be distracted by anti-immigration propaganda, and lose focus on the real enemy of our communities.

I am not talking about legal immigrants I am talking about ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS I thought you would know that by the title of the article. Medicare Fraud is #1 and mostly done by criminals brought here by wet foot dry foot hispanics. Illegal immigration takes away jobs and and increases crime like medicare fraud. The problem will be taken care of soon because we are bankrupt. There will be and already is an uprising of American Citizens that are not buying the illegal story any longer. I for one am tired of paying for people that will not pay. I say we need a number that we can call and have them deported immediately.

My first visit to your website and newspaper and I find that you give space to air the most bigoted hateful and worst of all ignorant citizen of your area. Linda Simmons is a hateful racist and the shame her family feels should be similar to the shame of The Miami Times to give her the space for this drivel.

I agree we need better representation in the Black American Communitry. It is sad that black politician refuse to fight against massive immigration due to the fact it continues to have negative affect on their constituents. For example, unemployment is a serious problem in the black community and yet Rep. Fredricka Wilson continues to lobby for temporary protective status for haitian. This do not make sinse because this means her constituents (Black Americans) now have to compete with cheap unskilled immigrants during scace times. Moreover, she is silent on the wet-foot-dryfoot issue which is a dishonor to her constituents because every new cuban immigrant mittigates employment opportunity for unemployed Black Americans. We,Black Americans, are not properly represented. This is why in 2012 I will not vote for President Obama because of his liberal stance on immigration. Furhtermore, wish to see more Black elected Officials take a more agressive stance on immgration.
