Typical launch parties include a simple gathering among community, government and business leaders and a smattering of light refreshments and simple beverages.
However, to officially announce that it was open for business to the world, EP Global, an import export company, hosted “A Fashionable Robing” at their headquarters in Downtown Miami on Friday, May 4th.
The fashion show highlighted models wearing the company’s Murphy Robe apparel.
“Many of the invited guests did not know what to expect of the fashion show,” said Priscilla Dames, co-founder of EP Global. “I think the variety of styles and quality of the robes surprised them, but Murphy Robes has top of the line apparel.”
In addition to the festivities, the launch featured the ‘International Business Protocol and Etiquette’ seminar presented by Desmond Alufohai, Miami-Dade County’s international trade coordinator.
“With so many foreign visitors coming to our region, businesses must learn to be sensitive to the different cultures and norms and understand the importance of international protocol and business etiquette because the cost of bad customer service or negative behavior to your business is enormous and could be very detrimental,” Alufohai explained.
A lineage of success
Priscilla Dames of Miami and her son, Ellis J. Dames, were inspired to found EP Global by Ms. Dames’ mother, Salathiel Wells. Having owned and operated her own business for over 30 years, Wells Robes Unlimited, Wells was proud to see that her family members were learning about the intricacies of international trade. So, she put her daughter and grandson in touch with the vice president of Murphy Robes, an American owned company that manufactures a variety of robes.
“It was exciting that my mom could help us get started but what I really got a kick out of was judges seeming to know my mother and recognize her when we were out and about during my visits home,” Priscilla commented.
Ellis and his mother, Priscilla are also not novices to the business world. Priscilla the CEO of Wingspan Seminars, a conflict resolution business that provides training to individuals to create safe environments while strengthening relationships. Meanwhile, Ellis, who currently resides in Atlanta, founded Vision, Inc., a promotions and event planning company and later established Burris Dames Global, a company that promotes real estate and production ventures. Collectively, the mother-son team has been in business for 20 years.
