Ludacris takes to the mic in New Year’s Event Soundclash

Rapper and actor Christopher Bain Bridges, 34, better known as Ludacris, will take on singer, songwriter and producer Mike Posner on New Year’s Eve at Miami’s Bayfront Park in an improvisational showdown between the two artists. The “conversation” between the two entertainers is part of the Red Bull Soundclash — an event that in the past has featured the likes of Cee Lo Green, The Roots, Talib Kweli and Erykah Badu.

Ludacris, who began as a DJ in Atlanta, brings comedy, entertainment, and on occasion, adult-oriented messages to his free verse. He has reached the apex in his profession, with several tunes making the Top 10 Billboard’s Hot 100 and snagging a Grammy Award. Since 2001, Ludacris has focused on working with social and educational groups with the hopes of inspiring young people to go after their dreams. His Ludacris Foundation has helped thousands of less-fortunate children with toys, winter clothing and chances to have brighter holidays and happier lives.

Pre-show festivities kick off at 7 p.m.; the show begins at 9 p.m. and culminates with a fireworks display and a countdown to the New Year. The format for the main show is a four-round challenge that features two bands with different music styles facing off on two stages. The bands will perform various musical assignments, some rehearsed and some improvised, to show off their skills. Ludacris and Posner will determine the genres that each band must perform as the competition proceeds. In the final round there will be special guests and plenty of surprises. Admission is free.
