County Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2 and community members broke ground on a new state-of-the-art senior recreation center at Arcola Lakes Park, 1301 NW 83rd Street, last Wednesday. The development marks Miami-Dade County’s first recreational facility specifically designed for use by senior residents, age 55 and older.
The new one-story, 14,220-square-foot facility will be completely ADA accessible and feature a covered passenger drop-off entrance; a lobby and reception area.
Seniors will be able to enjoy entertainment rooms with flat screen televisions, an arts and crafts room and a room to create ceramics. An exercise room equipped with the latest fitness equipment will be available for seniors looking to stay fit and active. The facility will also feature a large banquet hall/meeting room.
“The seniors of our community deserve the very best amenities and that is what this new senior center will deliver,” Monestime said.
The $6.3 million project is funded by Building Better Communities General Obligation Bonds.
