Former Deerfield Beach Commissioner Sylvia Poitier has landed in hot water once again this time for dumping chemicals from her dry cleaning business in the ground, then failing to pay fines or file a report connected with her actions. Shell be back before a judge on June 22nd where shell face a contempt of court charge. Fines and possible jail time could await. Its been one bad decision after another although she still contends that through it all, she didnt do anything wrong. Go figure. Artur Davis, the former Congressman from Alabama that seconded Barack Obamas nomination for president four years ago, has defected. Hes leaving the Democratic Party and the State of Alabama for Virginia and the Republican Party. Perhaps the real deal is that Davis is simply a sore loser. It was once thought that Obama would select him as an attorney general in his administration but that never materialized. He then landed on the side that both opposed Obamas health care legislation and became part of the anti-Charles Rangel team. Finally, he lost in his bid to become the first Black governor of Alabama. He may not be a woman scorned but hes clearly an angry Black man and they can be pretty dangerous too. In Miami-Dade Countys battle for mayor, current Mayor Carlos Gimenez and his top rival, County Commission Chairman Joe Martinez, are finger-pointing and countering claims faster than two elementary school kids at recess. Its going to be a rough fight to the end as both men have very similar ideas in terms of how to run the county. The winner may wind up being the one who can checkmate his opponent at the last minute in this high stakes game of political chess.
