In addition, the organization provides a platform for scholarship support of promising young Black classical vocalists attending various colleges and universities who have demonstrated an interest in pursuing a career in vocal arts. The Miami Dade Club was chartered in 1988 and since its inception, has been providing service to the local community. The organization supports many community initiatives, providing workshops and seminars to assist women to become financially independent and improve job readiness skills. In their meetings with women they stress the importance of health screenings and provide information to help lessen the impact of strokes, diabetes, and breast cancer in the Black community. They also give mentoring and scholarship support to local youth and assist business and professional women and youth in efforts to develop and promote their skills and careers. We share with other leaders and organizations the vision and commitment to building safer, stronger and better-educated communities, said Jo Ann Byrd, president, Miami Dade Club, NANBPWC.
