An evening of music, dancing and awareness Sumaya Newman owner of Lets Get Laced, knows how to have fun responsibly. The owner of the premium lace wig manufacturing company recently hosted her second annual cancer fundraiser at Miamis Q Lounge on Nov. 2. Newman brought in some of Miamis well-known artists and even flew in a well-known reality show star and singer to seal the atmosphere for the evening as lively, upscale and luxurious. The humanitarian event was hosted by radio personality Supa Cindy of 99 Jamz. Cindy said that she was all too happy to lend her energy and name to such an endeavor. This is very personal for me, Cindy said, who is currently in remission of cancer. Its happening to everyone. I dont care if its a family member or just someone that you dont know that well. Everyone knows someone who is being effected by some kind of cancer. The list of performers included Brianna Perry who performed a total of three songs that evening including her hit song Marilyn Monroe. JRand, another South Florida artist literally danced with audience members during his highly energetic performance. Next the lounge was astounded by reality star K. Michelle, who wowed the audience with her original songs and her rendition of Mary J. Bliges hit, Im going down. All proceeds for the evening went to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Newman explained how the loss of a close friend to cancer prompted her to have a celebration of their life rather than mourning. The event is meant to be a celebration that raises awareness at the same time, Newman said. Although Newman did not have a specific monetary goal for the evening, she admitted that they would love to be to donate $10,000 to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
