The 4A state runner-up and this seasons favorite to win it all, Booker T. Washington scored 11 unanswered times in their 71-0 pummeling of the North Broward Prep Eagles on Friday night at Curtis Park to propel them to the regional semifinals. The Tornados (10-1) limited the Eagles to 44 total offensive yards and forced NBP quarterback Kevin Bush to throw two interceptions during the regional quarterfinal game. Booker T. spread the scoring wealth between eight players, but most impressive may have been the dual role of freshman Mark Walton as running back and kicker who scored on a 19-yard run and 3-yard scamper and came right back to kick for the extra point. This shows the importance of developing every student athlete because you never know, said Booker T. Head Coach Tim Ice Harris. Our depth has gotten better. Booker T. proved just how deep they are with the first three scores coming from three different players, including a 58-yard reception by senior Nicholas Norris from junior quarterback Treon Harris, a 52-yard interception return by sophomore defensive back Catravis Hudson and a 30-yard run by junior running back Krondis Larry. Harris earned 188 passing yards on 7-of-13 passing and finished with two touchdown passes. Booker T. finished with 442 total offensive yards, and had a 49-0 lead by halftime. The Tornados were merciless as they scored another 22 points in the second half that gave the Eagles their second loss in regional quarterfinals in the last two seasons and Booker T. its ninth consecutive win. Booker T. faces district rival Gulliver Academy on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Curtis Park. By Akilah Lasterakilahlaster3@aol.com
