Lets congratulate Dr. Preston Marshall, for his work for over 20 years in organizing the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade for our community. This years parade featured many participants: Florida Highway Patrol flag bearers, Justice in Motion, Miami Police Color Guard, Miami Police Explorers, the Department of Corrections Color Guard, City of Miami Police on horseback, State Attorney Kathy Hernandez-Rundle, the family of Trayvon Martin, Mayor Carlos Giminez, Commissioner Audrey Edmonson, School Board Member Wilbert T. Holloway, Dr. Dorothy Bendross Mindingall and Mayors Myra Taylor and Carlos Hernandez. A parade always need bands to inspire and liven up the crowd: The FIU Marching band, Miami Carol City Marching band, Booker T Washington band, Arthur Scavella and the APM Band, Circle of Brotherhood, Dancing Inspirations, the Tacolcy Red Raiders, Madison, Allapattah and North Miami middle schools. After two hours of a great parade, all ended with the colorful Bahamian Junkanoos gyrating and displaying their uniquely colorful costumes. Rev. D.L. Powell of New Shiloh MBC officiated at the wedding of Althia Buchanan and Dewan Gates. The happy couple were supported by numerous family and friends including: Vera Harmon, mother of the bride; Carol Anderson, mother of the groom; Alberta Anderson, grandmother of the groom and Chester Leroy Gates, father of the groom. Bridesmaids and groomsmen included: Melody Noel and Arhmad Stokes; Vondra Jones and Shawn Scott; Tracy Wright and Artise Wright, Jr.; Melva Torian and Hugh West; Michele Godfrey, matron of honor and Artise Wright, best man. The wedding reception was held at Don Shulas in Miami Lakes. The Historic Hampton House Community Trust [HHHCT] met Feb. 4th to receive the slate of officers presented by the nominating committee: Dorothy Dottie Johnson, chairperson; Dr. Richard J. Strachan, vice president; Isabella Rosete, secretary; Dr. Edwin T. Demeritte, treasurer and Dr. Enid C. Pinkney, CEO. Trustees include: Dr. Larry Capp, Rev. Jesse Martin, Ruby Rayford, Juanita Johnson and Florence Strachan. Advisory board members are Martha Anderson, Dr. Gay F. Outler, Arva Moore Parks, Leslie Rivers, Harvey Ruvin, Kathy Hersh and Dr. Mary Ferguson. By Dr. Richard Strachan
