State Representative Barbara Watson along with State Senator Oscar Braynon and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime recently partner with Farm Share to serve over 1,500 families free food. The partnership resulted in the distribution of 21,000 pounds of food at Oak Grove Park. The leaders were joined by the City of North Miami Beach and the Department of Children and Families. According to Feeding South Florida over the past two years, there has been an increase in the reliance on emergency food programs by 39 percent. Those in need of food assistance include children, the working poor, older adults, veterans, physically and mentally disabled, and the homeless. Farm Share specializes in getting donated fresh fruits and vegetables from Florida’s farmers and putting it into the hands of the millions of low-income families in need of nutritious food. The program provides more than 15 million pounds of nutritious food to more than 600,000 low-income households across Florida.
