Congratulations to Torrian Wallace and his Doctor’s Charter School cross country team for successfully advancing to the school’s first state finals in cross country on Nov. 9 in Tallahassee. His proud parents are Torin and Shanae Wallace and siblings, Terraile and Shania.

Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) celebrated its 64th anniversary on campus with more than 100 attending. Soror Martha C. Day was honored. She was a charter member. Soror Carrie P. Meek taught at B-CU during those days. Women in Ft. Lauderdale had a conference and Soror Brenda Snipes and Florida Memorial University President Soror Dr. Roslyn Artist were participants in the conference. In 1978, 17 young ladies were initiated into the “Syncapated 17” line 35 years ago. I was Dean of Pledges along with Gen Lockhart. The “Syncapated 17” are: Gladys Lynch, Geraldine Koonce, Rosa Jones, Rene Brown, Nancy Dawkins, Bernadette Poitier, Josephine Hall, Naomi Porter, Arcie Ewell, Gwendolyn High, Charile Mae Culpepper, Theresa Davis, Gail Pollard, Inell Hunter (deceased), Wilhelmenia Rhetta (deceased) and Vera Wyche (deceased).
