Miami Broward Carnival showcases kids, colors and culture
Miami Times staff report | 10/17/2013, 9 a.m.
The Miami Broward 2013 carnival season recently kicked off as carnival fans witnessed vibrant colors and pulsating
energy at Sun Life Stadium as over 20 masquerade bands participated in a street parade within the Stadium and competed for Band of the Year bragging rights. The costumes were judged on visual impact, creativity, authenticity, clarity of theme, best use of color and presentation. Following the parade, a concert was held featuring the 2013 Soca Monarch & Road March King Superblue. Even children were allowed to participate in the festivities — a junior carnival with a parade and other activities that allowed youth to celebrate their place within the Caribbean culture.
