On October 5th, my sister Gayle Sweeting celebrated her birthday with eight of her close friends with a one-day cruise aboard The Superfast Cruise to Bimini. Joining in the celebration were: Faye Kelly, Kathy Peacock, Elaine Jinks, Vonna Richardson, Gina Garvin, Kim Watson, Shandra Smith, Mayla Beason and Lashonda Hanna. Everyone had a good time.

Cynthia Farquhaison and Joann Holmes celebrated their 60th birthday at the Omega Center on Sat., Oct. 11. It was an old school Opa-locka Bunche Park affair. Happy!

Shandra Smith celebrated her birthday with her family and friends at the Cheesecake Factory in Pembroke Pines. It was also a breast cancer awareness celebration as everyone looked pretty in pink.

Please join us at Saint Agnes Episcopal Church as we culminate our annual “Calendar Tea” on Sun., Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. A wonderful program is planned.

Bethune-Cookman University’s homecoming is very near. If you want to join the “Wildcats,” there will be a bus trip to Daytona. Call 305-792-7097. A good weekend is in store for all.

The Royal family, Samuel and Deborah Smith, held a “Royal Sweet 16” celebration in honor of their daughter — Princess Sierra Johnson at the “La Vie En Rose” in Miramar. It was a magical and elegant affair held Oct. 19. Happy Birthday.

When the AARP (Miami group) attended its convention in Atlanta last week some of the members in attendance were: Elry T. Sands, Nancy Dawkins, Martha Day, Margaret Roberts, Irna Beckles, Clatilda Daniels, Mr. and Mrs. Dupree, Mary McCray, Judy Nelson, Cynthia Canton and Lydia Richardson.

The Booker T. Washington football team is No.1 in football. Hearty congratulations to coach and our Tornadoes! May you continue to do well! We are now 8-0 and have apparently returned to the days when the old timers were in school. The old timers are very proud of out team and coaching staff. We love you all!
