North Shore Medical Center pays tribute to mothers during National Breastfeeding Awareness Month in August by hosting a baby shower and allowing guests to tour the hospital’s Signature Birthplace Suites.

The event, held on Aug.16, was open to the community and featured educational lectures, healthy refreshments, entertainment and prenatal yoga demonstrations. Staff from the hospital’s maternity department was available to provide information and answer questions.

“We are excited to host this educational event for all the parents-to-be in our community,” said Manny Linares, chief executive officer of North Shore Medical Center. “This event supports our mission to continue improving the health and well-being of the women and children we serve.”

The baby shower’s on-site participants included Johnson & Johnson, The Children’s Trust, Babies “R” Us and Miami-Dade County Women’s Health and Dental Services. The organizations gave information about the many products and services they offer.

North Shore Medical Center, whose maternity program earned a 5-star rating in clinical excellence from Healthgrades, is home to the only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in northern Miami-Dade County.

The unit is staffed 24/7 with an on-site team of specialists and features some of the most advanced technology to care for newborns.

With a focus on the entire pregnancy experience, North Shore offers a variety of complimentary prenatal educational classes, as well as a maternity tracker application that can be downloaded on your smartphone.
