Ballard and Evelina Bestman. 1 year term: Janet Brown, Malvern Mathis, Barbara Burrows and David Wilson.

Very sorry to hear to have heard of the demise of Leila O’Berry, youngest daughter of the late Benny O’Berry and his wife Veronica O’Berry. Veronica Bynoe O’Berry and her two daughters live on NW 12th Ave. Sympathy to you and your family in your great loss. All of us will miss Leila.

The diocese of southeast Florida will celebrate the life and accomplishments of Absalom Jones at 10 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, located at 1835 N.W. 54th St. The preacher for this occasion will be the reverend Lloyd Allen, bishop of the diocese of Honduras. Kathleen D. Walker is president.

Congratulations and our best wishes go out to Marcus J. Postell, one of the 25 role models of excellence scholarship recipients for the class of 2014 and also to all other role models of excellence scholarship recipients for the class of 2014. Black history is everyday for us. Blacks live it every day. Memories of our ancestors, parents and grandparents branded in our souls. It is a piece of fabric our ancestors knew all about. We have come a long way but still have a long way to go.
