The Mother/Baby Unit (3rd floor-main bldg.), the same area where the first baby was born more than 60 years ago, and weighed in at nine pounds, has been refurbished and that mother would not recognize it, if she saw it today. The maternity suites are beautiful and can be easily compared to any fine hotel suite at any resort around.

“Since that time, thousands of babies have been delivered at Northshore and treated with much love and attention but now, the mothers, fathers and babies will feel and be treated like royalty in these beautiful maternity suites,” Manny Linares, CEO of North Shore Medical Center said at the opening on the third floor.

“We are ecstatic to have a project we have been working on for four months finally completed at a cost of one million.”

The third floor was filled with doctors, nurses, prospective patients, community leaders and reporters. Some expressed the desire to “go home and impregnate their wives,” after going into the suites and seeing the big screen television sets, the beautiful couches and the ambience.
