Brother William Donald Maddox, Jr. was born in Miami to the late William and Pearlie Maddox. He grew up in Richmond Heights and says, “I inherited a rich legacy of true family values.”
Maddox was educated in the Miami-Dade County School System and graduated from Miami Killian Senior High School in 1975. He also attended Johnson C. Smith University; Sunset School of Biblical Studies, Lubbock, Texas, and is nearing the completion of his degree in Biblical Studies from Amridge University in Montgomery Alabama.
Maddox believes the value of a true child of God is one that will embrace the word of God as it is written.
“Being a full time minister is challenging yet rewarding,” he said. Maddox “believes that the word of God should be preached just as it was given to us by God. The Church of Christ embraces first century Christianity as it is recorded in the New Testament.”
The Coconut Grove Church of Christ at 3345 Douglas Road has been in existence 80 years, serving the Coconut Grove community. Maddox believes that the church must make a powerful impact in the life of every child of God through sound biblical doctrine, and help those who are struggling with spiritual and physical problems come to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.
The Church of Christ offers many ministries to the Coconut Grove community, besides Sunday morning worship, including: Bible study, Tuesday 7-8 p.m. for non- members and counseling for those who may want to deal with their issues from a biblical perspective; Mid-week Bible study, Wed., 7:30 – 8:45 p.m.; Sunday morning worship, 10 a.m.; clothes giveaways, feeding the hungry, and many other ministries to help the community.
“Preaching and teaching God’s word is a passion for me,” said Maddox. “I have been the full-time minister at the Coconut Grove Church of Christ since July 1, 1997. During my tenure many have come to Jesus and have set their life on a new course.”
Maddox has a very strong passion for family. He believes that families are the glue that keeps us grounded and helps us deal with the everyday vicissitudes of life. His deep love for family led him to ministry because of his desire to help those who are struggling with everyday problems of life.
He was raised by his mother and his grandmother who instilled in him a deep value of true family love. He views the church as the family of God where there must be a commitment of true unconditional love for another and lost humanity.
“I believe if I can help someone come to Jesus, through the word of God, then I will be doing what God requires of me as a minister of the gospel of Christ to do.”
Maddox is an avid sports fan, loves fishing and working out. He is a retired Miami-Dade Correctional Officer and has been married for 28 years to Joyce. They are the proud parents of two adult daughters, Jazmin Nicole and Lauren Ashley Maddox.
Maddox invites everyone to the worship services at the Church of Christ in Coconut Grove. “It will be an experience you won’t soon forget,” he said.
