God’s First Family

Genesis two gives a detailed account of the creation of the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve.
The first surgery, with anesthesia on Adam, was some 2,500 years later than it was recorded by Moses in what
we now know as the first book of the Bible — Genesis. Scripture declares that God “took one of Adam’s ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof,” indicates in the Hebrew far more than just a rib. It actually speaks of the rib along with Adam’s flesh, which included the blood, the nerves, veins, etc. This means that the woman is one side of man and without a woman, a very important part of him is missing.
Matthew Henry states in his commentary, “The woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved by him.”
God Himself provided the woman for the man, He presented her to her future husband and performed the wedding Himself. Because God was involved in the first marriage it was a perfect union. Over half of the marriages in our nation end in divorce. God desires to be present at all weddings, if we would allow Him. If God is allowed to be involved and we would earnestly seek God’s direction in our decisions, for sure, God will answer our prayer and guide us in the right direction.
It is a man’s responsibility to love his wife and children according to scripture, guide the spiritual atmosphere of the home by first knowing what the Bible says and then living by its principles. Far too many men are not involved in a church where they may be taught by the Word of God.
