Exposure, excellence and experience are the three things that Shawntravia Pointville lives by when running her three daycare locations. As a young adult, Pointville began a career as a correctional officer that showed exemplary skills in management, interpersonal communication and leadership skills which allowed her to get promoted to corporal.

In 2008, Pointville decided to utilize her leadership skills to direct a different set of beings — children.

“I have always had a passion for children, which is why I decided to go to school and get my degree in Elementary Education from Miami-Dade College and Florida International University,” Pointville said.

Pointville was happy to announce that her newest location in Opa-locka [780 Fisherman St.] is open 24 hours. All other locations are open from 6:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

“It’s not easy finding consistent help in order to make it to work everyday,” Pointville said. “We are offering it to the community to fill the need that I know very well exists.”

The ex-correctional officer turned CEO of three daycares says that early on in her business venture she realized after working in a jail for so long, she realized that not everyone is a bad person — some just need a little more love and structure.

“Being able to reach children early on in their lives and show them that there is opportunity and other options in life than becoming an athlete or entertainer is her passion and something she feels strongly about,” Pointville said. “I tell my staff and students alike, they must go above and beyond what is needed.”

Her mission is to provide them with a home away from home and give every child a sense of pride in themselves and the culture which they are living in.

“When I go out of town to different cities or countries, I always visit other schools and try to get ideas that I can utilize in my classrooms,” Pointville said.

She says that she wants to give each child different opportunities that they wouldn’t normally be exposed too — and of course quality education.
