Black fathers are not getting a fair shake

Derek Walker was a father from Durham, North Carolina who had been dealing with a nasty custody battle within the court system. Walker became a desperate man whose world had become unhinged after he lost custody of his son following a bitter custody battle.
“I can’t take [what] my son’s mother is putting me through,” Walker wrote. “She has filled [my son’s] head up with so much false stuff. He has told me I’m a bad Father. I’m not a good dad.” Walker wrote this on his Facebook page saying, “Don’t call me and don’t talk to me because I’m not responding. I hope I die very soon and a fast death because this world I live in is sorry.” He
continued, “I’m ready to die because I have no reason to live right now.”
Friends and family members tried to reach out to the 26-year-old after the chilling post, asking him to call them and offering words of encouragement. But nothing could stop Walker from taking the steps that would lead to the end of his life. On Sept. 17th, 2013 Derek Walker pointed a gun at police officers and was shot and killed by Durham Police because he lost custody of his son. I feel Walker’s pain but I wish that Walker would have handled his situation differently because dying only leaves his son fatherless.
I just finished reading Florida’s Child Support Benchbook 2012 Office of the State Courts Administrator. Something needs to done about the way, The Department of Children And Families, Florida State Attorney’s Office and The Florida Department of Revenue handle child support cases. If these agencies communicated with each other they would prevent fraud, be well served and so would a lot of men.
In 1987, the standard payment for a woman (single parent) with three children was $252.00 which is $63.00 per week for 3 children. The USMC military benefits dependents allotment package for military personnel with children was $381 per month just for one child. When my daughter was born in 1987, I was in the United States Marine Corps. The mother knew where I was and deliberately defrauded the Department of Children &Families by changing the last digit of my social security number and concealing my whereabouts.
In,1994, I received shocking news that the Department of Children And Families, Florida State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Revenue had been looking for me since 1987 for child support. After getting this shocking news, I left the public assistance office and committed domestic violence. Without question there are some men that are just trifling in their duties as fathers and women in their duties as mothers. The Department of Children And Families, Florida State Attorney’s Office and The Florida Department of Revenue want me to payback money that she got by lying and defrauding them. She committed the fraud but I keep going to jail for it.
