Have you always wished you had the time to learn to play a musical instrument but never did? The University of Miami is offering that opportunity to senior citizens who have that desire. This is something George Early has always wanted to do — play a trumpet. He is a retiree who reads for the blind at WLRN and is also a member of the New Horizons Senior Band. Early played trombone while in high school at Miami Northwestern Senior High but his desire was to always play the trumpet. “The trumpet is an instrument that is always playing the lead and often solo,” Early said. “Now, I am able to do that and I am excited.” The band has a place for anyone wanting to play an instrument, according to director Susie Lalama. “We have positions available beginners, intermediate and the experienced ones.” For fee and registration information, call 305-284-6252.
