With the Fourth of July on a Friday this year, fireworks will spark a weekend of celebrations and picnics for thousands in South Florida who will celebrate America’s 238th birthday.

Residents all over will host back yard barbecues before bringing out their lawn chairs to view colorful explosives light up the evening skies. Resident can buy fireworks at various street stands in neighborhoods, but for a safer evening of celebrations, police officials across the county are urging residents to attend free firework displays at several municipalities.


Opa-locka commissioner Louis Santiago and the city will sponsor an Independence Day celebration at Ingram Park, located at 2100 Burlington St. There will be free music and entertainment for families and children. There will also be an antique automobile and motorcycle show. The celebrations will culminate with a fireworks show. The celebrations will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

North Miami

North Miami’s annual Independence Day celebration by the Bay on the grounds of the Kovens Center at Florida International University – Biscayne Bay Campus, 3000 NE 151st St. Residents will enjoy a fun-filled evening with the family on Friday, July 4. The fun begins at 7 p.m. with children’s activities, live entertainment by Karina Iglesias of NBC’s hit show The Voice, and a spectacular fireworks finale over the bay at sundown.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy a special evening with your family and friends celebrating our nation’s independence.  Admission to the festivities and parking is free. Food will be available for purchase. No personal fireworks or alcoholic beverages will be allowed. Bug spray is also recommended. The event will take place rain or shine.


One of the largest fireworks display in South Florida comes to Bayfront Park to celebrate the birth of our great nation. Enjoy a free Kids' Zone (3-7 p.m), food and beverages, and a massive pyrotechnic display over Biscayne Bay (9 p.m.) there will also be live music, lawn games, giveaways, festive photo opportunities and more. Bayfront Park open all day.
