One of the longest-running urban gospel stage plays in the country is set to bring an eclectic mix of comedy, drama and music during its stop in Miami after 165 stops since starting out in Miami, 2006.

“Church Mess: The Play” also delivers a message of hope that God can deliver anyone out of a messy situation, including the ones church-going folks sometimes find themselves.

The play is scheduled for April 5-6 at The Lou Rawls Theater at Florida Memorial University. It is being presented by The Chad Cooper Company, an Atlanta, GA based production company.

The play stars actor/producer Chad Lawson Cooper lead singer of "I don't look like what I've been Through,"national recording artist Alicia Robinson Cooper, lead singer for John P. Kee and The VIP Choir, Carl Payne from "The Martin Lawrence Show and Miami's own Queen of Gospel singer Virginia Bostic and Miami's Prince of Gospel Avery Jones.

Over the past eight years, the play has been seen by more than 300,000 people in more than 100 cities across 20 states.

“The play doesn’t promote the church as a mess. It’s just that sometimes, in church, people can be a little messy,” Cooper said.

“ It is written from a pastor’s perspective,” Johnnie Weems, actor and marketing representative said. “ The play’s plot centers around the struggles that a new pastor has with his membership.”

A pastor and his wife have been newly hired at this church and basically inherit this troublesome membership. “But the overall theme is that no matter how messy our personal situations may be, God is enough to not only clean up our messes, but draw us into salvation, deliverance and healing,” Weems said.

Weems added, the audience will receive a message of hope through an urban theatrical performance, which many may not regularly get to see.

The Coopers now based out of Atlanta, GA have toured in over 165 US cities over the last eight years. “We contribute a lot of our motivation to God first and to Miami's own Gigi Tinsley.

After a setback eight years ago, shortly after starting, I wanted to give up but I read an encouraging article on "Church Mess" by Gigi in The Miami Times and decided to continue the dream,” Chad said.
