“Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned”
Tyler Perry’s new play comes to the James L. Knight Center

It’s a beautiful day when Anita’s sister, Mona, gets married. Anita is thrilled that she is financially stable and has the means to give her little sister the wedding she’s always dreamed of. All seems well in paradise but Anita’s friends believe that she is still hurt from a failed relationship years earlier. Anita insists that she is happy but, at the prompting of her best friend, decides to give love another chance . . . through Internet dating, where she finds the man of her dreams
But what follows is a story filled with twists and turns, in Tyler Perry’s Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned, the story of a woman who is scorned and who then responds, in one of the most unbelievable ways. Filled with comedy, tragedy and romance, this is a production with interesting roles played by a strong cast. The cast includes the likes of Patrice Lovely, a highly capable actress who has played roles in many stage productions.
The play comes to the James L. Knight Center, downtown, for a two-night performance on Wed., April 30 and Thurs., May 1 at 7:30 p.m. Miami is just one of several cities to host the play, which travels to Orlando, Jacksonville and Tallahassee once it leaves South Florida.
Tyler Perry is an American actor, screenwriter, playwright, songwriter, producer and director. Born in New Orleans, he debuted in the American entertainment industry in 1992 and has gone on to become one of the most successful film producers and directors in the U.S. He rose to fame during the ‘90s when he wrote and produced many popular plays. By 2011, he had become the highest paid man in entertainment, with Forbes ranking him number one with a income of $130 million that year.As an actor, Tyler Perry has also captured the spotlight. He is particularly famous for playing the role of Madea, a character he created that has become a staple of American entertainment.
His stage plays are often adapted into very successful movies. One of his first movies was I Know I’ve Been Changed, which premiered in 1998. Some of his more recent works include Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which featured Madea. He has also created many popular TV shows, which are watched daily by millions in the U.S. and the world over.
Tyler Perry is currently working on animated film featuring Madea, aimed at children. His movies have earned big bucks; Diary of a Mad Black Woman earned more than $50 million on a $5 million budget with the second Madea movie earning $65 million. By 2011 alone, his movies had earned a staggering $500 million. As an author, his books have topped the New York Times Best Seller List and won such awards as the Quill Awards’ Best Humor Book. His work has been praised by many, ranging from Oprah Winfrey to Goldie Taylor.
