Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey aims to dazzle Miami Fashion Week this year. As CEO of the Bailey Agency School of Fashion, Bailey is on a quest to add a new model to her agency.

On April 25, the agency in partnership with Jambalaya Group hosted a private cocktail reception at the Bath House in Miami Beach. The five hopeful models chosen from the cocktail reception will now compete for a contract at Miami Fashion Week’s Faces of Fashion.

“Miami is a very relevant fashion market and I’m so excited about partnering up with them and hopefully doing more things with them in the future,” Bailey said. Miami Fashion Week takes place from May 15 to 18 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Style enthusiasts, celebrities and renowned designers from around the world will experience an “original, fresh new concept as they discover the latest in resort wear,” according to the Miami Fashion Week website.

Bailey is no stranger to the runway. She sported a “bootylicious” swimsuit at Miami Fashion Week, which aired on the hit reality show.

In the fashion industry, agencies are always on the lookout for the next young model. Bailey is looking forward to showcasing the new talent.

“I expect them to take advantage of the opportunity and to showcase their beauty, their talent — it’s a great platform for them to be seen,” Bailey said.

Bailey, a veteran in the modeling business says that certainly there are moments where you may stumble

— “it’s not how you fall but how you get up,” Bailey said.

As social media is becoming a huge platform for many aspiring models to be discovered, Bailey gives some important advice.

“First and foremost, you have to be a realist about the business,” Bailey said. “It’s important to educate yourself about the business. You want to set goals that you can achieive.”

She gives an example: If you’re 5-foot-2 (inches) and your goal is to be a runway model, then you’ve already set them too high and if you educate yourself then you would know [these things].

That’s one of the many reasons she says that she began her school — to educate, inspire and support.

As for social media, she says that if used in the right way it can work for you.

“When I started in this business, we didn’t have social media, now it’s important to make sure that if you do have one it represents you well,” Bailey said. “If you have “ratchet” pictures floating on Instagram — that’s not good — we look at all of those things.”

The winners of Faces of Fashion will walk the runways during Miami Fashion Week and have the opportunity to collaborate with national print publications and a full-page spread in Jones magazine.
