Miami Gardens mayor gives high schoolers dozens of laptops

Miami Gardens Mayor Oliver Gilbert gave 20 laptop computers to talented high school seniors Monday at Miami Carol City Senior High as part of an annual giveaway the mayor started several years ago.

“Our children are our future and I want to recognize their achievements,” Gilbert said.

The laptop computers are made by the Japanese company Toshiba. They are 16-inch laptops that have 4GB Memory and a 500GB Hard Drive. Their retail value is $250.00. He also gave away twenty computers at Norland on May 8.  About ten laptop computers at Miami Northwestern will be given away on the 28.

In all, the mayor is expected to give away 50 laptops this year.

The laptop giveaway at Miami Northwestern Senior High will take place Wed., May 28 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the school auditorium.
