Participants in the national conference for the Black Immigration Network came from all walks of life. Some of them were descendants of slaves, while others were Black immigrants from countries all around the globe. Their mission, in accordance with the conference titled Kinship Assembly: A Gathering for Action, was to improve conditions for Black immigrants in a struggle they believe is incorporated in a quest for racial equality.
Tia Oso, conference planner, said finding shared experiences helps foster a powerful movement.
"In the movement work that we're trying to do among Black communities, we're really seeing that unity and solidarity are built upon relationships and building connections," she said.
