Inez A. Wilcox

86, retired Miami Dade County Public School English Teacher, born in Miami, a native of Overtown, died January 20 at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Inez Wilcox was a graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High (class of “44”). After graduation, she headed to Tuskegee University where she completed her Bachelor’s degree.
She was married to James Willie Wilcox for 45 years. To this union, 10 children were born.
She was an active member in the Inner-City Education Foundation, NAACP, PULSE, St. John CDC and had an ongoing fundraising effort for her beloved Florida Memorial University, raising tens of thousands of dollars to help deserving students attend a historically black college or university. She was also a faithful member of St. John Institutional Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the mother’s board and many other committees at her church.
She leaves to mourn: seven living children (three preceded her in death); 21 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a host of special friends and acquaintances. Family will receive well-wishers 5-9 p.m., today-Friday at the following address: 1695 NW 127 Street, Miami, FL. Viewing of final remains, 5-8 p.m., Saturday at St. John Baptist Church, 1328 NW 3rd Ave., Miami, FL. Service 3 p.m., Sunday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that all donations be made to Florida Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Inez A. Wilcox. Checks can be made payable to: St. John Baptist Church.
