A man who lived in our lives as the perfected form of musician melded to instrument. He gave us sounds that made memory, that concert, that date, that Friday nite late time, that mid 30s revelation morning, the early twenties scenes made possible only by our stubborn sense of immortality, the middling years' moments in which nostalgia bound with the affirmation that someone we'd known sound with for so long was still blowing his horn vibrantly meant everything and much we didn't even realize. To a man who brought us more than music and what only music can bring, I hope his passing into forever-ever is sweetened with all the sonic sensations of power, myth, rythm, and plain ol dirty done up fun that he brought to the many.

So very sorry--I'd hoped he'd pull through. It wasn't just his size that made him "the big man." It was the sheer joy and love that poured through him when he played. He wasn't just a musician: he was a conduit for The Music, in an elemental and uplifting way. He will be missed.

RIP Big Man. My heart is broken. You and Bruce and the E-Street Band were a huge part of my youth. So many concerts, so much great music. Last concert I was right in front of you and you gave me a big smile. I'll never forget it. Love you Big Man, we'll miss you forever.
