What can our community do to reverse the trend of Black men going to prison?

What we can do is respect the police and assist them in their efforts to stop all the violence that is going on in the community.

We need to all work together as one and stop the violence. We need to stop fighting one another.

We need to institutionalize rights of passage, just like we’ve institutionalized churches and colleges. One of the things that we struggle with as a community is when does a Black boy become a Black man.

We can’t do it for them, it is really up to that person. If someone has it in their mind to do something they will do it. They need to start reading the bible, that’s how we keep our boys out of prison.

What we need to start doing is maybe having more educational places for them to go to learn how to better themselves.

We need to get the bible put back in school and get the parents permission to beat their behinds.

Well first of all it starts from home. We as parents need to make sure we are raising our children the right way & teaching them morals. I blame a lot of these parents because I see to many individuals, some of my friends as well, trying to be friends to their children instead of parents to them. Second you have a lot of babies having babies which in some cases creates a major problem because they really don’t have the knowledge at that age of raising a child &amp preparing them for life because they are still children themselves. Lastly we as parents have to make sure we do our part raising our children & bringing them up in God’s church! It’s not about cloths, Facebook, shoes etc, it’s about providing children with what they need not what they want! The old school way of raising a child, spare the rod spoil the child & it takes a village to raise a child!

I agree with most of Jeremy’s comments. I don’t think Parents are taking responsibility for their kids actions. I also feel the church- well not just the church but all religious institutions – are failing. If you look around Miami their are a ton of churches but our condition and environment does not change.

But at some point “The People” have to take responsibility for their own. Other communities do it.
