Putney is and always has been a part of the establishment. He is their "go to" guy, therefore his one sided characterization of the community should be expected. His low opinion of the working people in this town is all the proof I need.

That said, gee mack also makes a good point above about many in our community needing a mental makeover. Mr. Jones is one of the few leaders we have that is involved for the right reasons and I applaud is tireless efforts.

What if our private investors came together called the CHURCH and put some money together(that they collect each Sunday ) and open 4 or more businesses for the year. Like Neiamiah we could do it but is there ONE with the FATIH TO BELIEVE. It is possible but CHURCHES dont show they care. THey have the most resources than many. WHAT IS STOPPING THEM FROM DOING SO. If they need business educated people with the know how , we have many professions here and in graduate and business here just waiting to be called. The song says AFTER YOU HAVE DONE ALL YOU CAN- stand. Churches have not done close to all they can. That is why people dont listen much to pastors. THEY PREACH IT BUT THEY DONT DO IT. pASTORS THE CHURCH DOWN TH ESTREET IS NOT YOUR ENEMY he can be your greatest help by working together. But children continue to have little job options because the CHURCH WONT WORK TOGETHER. I SAY IT BECAUSE THE CHURCH HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE ONE TO PROVIDE SOLUTIONS FROM HISTORY. WE HAVE MORE NOW THAN PAST WORSHIPERS EVER DID. PUT AWAY YOUR EGOS AND AND SELF SERVING AND CALL ALL YOUR CHURCH BROTHERS TOGETHER. THE CHILDREN OF LIBERTY CITY AND OVERTOWN NEED TO SEE THE JESUS IN YOU.

I believe Spense Jones will get it done- And some real progress can finally be made in Liberty City where I grew up. We need dollars in the community and the mental makeover will come. Many people Lack leaders" have done nothing all these years because one they did not care and two they had no reall committment to the plan. But I believe Michelle SPense Jone will follow throug. Look at the book of Neimaih in the bible--The city was destroyed and in ruins-but with the faith of ONE and some money things turned around very fast. We have to show our children in liberty we can do better and they can have better .

If our leaders and representatives would stop being so sleezy folks like Putney wouldn't have reason to make the comments he made. But 7th Ave has been the subject of revitalization talks for years. The business owners in the area have been getting little checks for years. Nothing has changed. It seems to have gotten worse

If the business do not generate profit then what's the point of continuing to go after dollars that people are using to line their pockets. Our community leaders have failed us. All their concerned with is photo ops and handing out turkeys and toys. They are not tending to the "Business" of the community.

Leroy i do believe your heart is in the right place but the community needs a mental makeover before any dollars will make a difference

It's easy for people specially those whose opinions are voiced on the radio, tv or on print to dismiss any one or any community specially when it comes to Miami. There has been an increase in gentrification in many parts of Miami's Black and Latino communities as well as poor white communities without any compensation or consideration from the Mayor or any local government officials and representatives who don't live in any of the gentrified communities. Local media and police officials speak of the crime in Liberty City, North Miami and Overtown but they fail to recognize the violence of gentrification and lack of job opportunities for most people already getting pushed out. Local media should focus their ignorance to the history books or look online before they dismiss our communities as being crime ridden. These Putneys and other journalists should really take a long hard look at the crimes against the Black community through the development of I-95 and Metrorail's pipe dream as well as the Florida Lotto and who it benefitted.

Its easy to have historical amnesia because no one holds the journalists or city officials accountable except the people.

7th Avenue was a beautiful drip of community businesses and it still retains that essence. No corporate chains killing off Mom and Pop shops or pushing our community out. What we want, what we need is what we deserve! Our piece of what we put into our taxes!
